The following websites are great general resources for those who want to learn more about whisky:
ScotchWhisky.com was the brainchild of noted whisky writer Dave Broom, and I believe it was originally supposed to be a sort of online-exclusive whisky magazine. That didn’t end up working out, however, part of the project included “Whiskypedia,” a compendium of information on distilleries and the Scotch Whisky industry in general. That section of the site, especially, is useful for anyone who wants to learn more about whisky.
Whisky.com is similar to the “Whiskypedia” section on the site noted above. They also have plenty else going on there that I haven’t explored in depth. A good resource, although I find the web design subpar.
Whisky Magazine is one of the two flagship print whisky magazines. I used to subscribe back in the day. Not sure how deep you can go on the website without paying, but it’s a good place to poke around a bit.
Whisky Advocate (I’m old enough to remember when it was Malt Advocate) is North America’s premier print whisky publication. I don’t visit the site that often, but the last time I was there, you could get at least some news and reviews without crashing into the paywall.
Whisky Base is more of a resource for finding tasting notes and information–including where you can buy–on specific bottlings, but it’s a great all-around resource.
Scotch Whisky Association
The Scotch Whisky Association is the professional trade organization for Scotch Whisky, and they help to define the legal definitions of the spirit.
