Most things in life, you don’t do alone. This site–and my whisky experience, more generally–is no exception. I’ve had a lot of help. No one has been more supportive of my passion for whisky than my amazing wife. She has generously bought me many, many bottles of whisky, and she’s been an enthusiastic supporter of my writing about whisky, including encouraging me as I built this site.

I’d also be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the books and websites I’ve consulted over the years to learn about whisky, particularly when it came to getting my facts right for this site.

On the shoulders of giants…

A works cited page for a whisky website? Come on, right? But hey, I think it’s important to give credit where it’s due. I finished grad school more than a decade ago, and I haven’t had much use for putting together a bibliography since then soooo…when I was putting this together, I consulted an online source for MLA citation conventions (MLA, why not?) and then made a very half-assed attempt to follow it. I never really care very much about stylistic convention, anyway, and the point here is to give credit for other people’s information and ideas rather than to hew to a rigorous editorial standard.

In keeping with the rather casual, not-rigorously-academic nature of this enterprise, I’m further upsetting the applecart by bolding resources that I’ve relied upon heavily and think my readers might likewise benefit from.

Websites

Basically, the same drill as above. Below is a list of websites that I regularly check to find factual information on the whisky industry along with brief notes–bye, bye semblance of style! As before, resources I rely on heavily and think readers may find beneficial are bolded.

Whiskypedia – ScotchWhisky.com

ScotchWhisky.com was the brainchild of noted whisky writer Dave Broom, and I believe it was originally supposed to be a sort of online-exclusive whisky magazine. That didn’t end up working out, however, part of the project included “Whiskypedia,” a compendium of information on distilleries and the Scotch Whisky industry in general. Most of my information on distilleries was at least fact-checked there. It doesn’t update anymore, but for however much longer the site exists, it remains a great resource.

Whisky.com

Whisky.com is similar to the “Whiskypedia” section on the site noted above. They also have plenty else going on there that I haven’t explored in depth. A good resource, although I find the web design subpar.

Finally, a note about the photos used on this site:

In addition to being a whisky enthusiast, I’m also an avid amateur photographer. That said, I’m mainly a landscape and wildlife photographer, and am poorly equipped to take high quality images of my whisky collection. For now, most of the whisky photos that appear here are taken from retail or producer websites and sites that provide free stock photos. Wherever possible, I will credit the photographer, but in many cases, that may not be possible. Eventually, I hope to be able to illustrate these pages mainly with my own photographs, but that’s not where things stand right now.

Below is a list of the photographers whose work appears on this site, with links to their profile wherever they post their photos:
