Gordon & MacPhail to shift away from independent bottling

Per The Herald, Gordon & MacPhail, one of Scotland’s oldest independent bottlers, has announced recently that, starting in 2024, it will no longer fill casks from distilleries it does not own. The firm has been in the whisky brokering business for most of its existence, and has been bottling single malts from distilleries both widely known and far more obscure for many decades. With the acquisition of the Benromach distillery from UDV (now Diageo) in 1993, it entered the distilling business; it built its own new distillery, The Cairn, which began production last year.

Although whisky lovers will mourn the loss of Gordon & MacPhail’s deep portfolio of single malts, a vast number of independent bottlers have sprouted up in recent years, and G&M will continue to bottle maturing stocks for years to come.
