I no sooner post a review (claiming a bottling is current) than the whisky in question is discontinued and its parent company announces a revamped range. So it is with Glenglassaugh, one of the trio of Scottish distilleries owned by Jack Daniels and Woodford parent firm Brown-Forman.
The new range consists of a 12 year old, and two no-age statement (NAS) whiskies called, respectively, Sandend and Portsoy (after the nearest town). Bottled in handsome bottles with swirled glass no doubt meant to evoke sandy beaches and waves due to the distillery’s coastal location, the new expressions replace the core NAS expressions Revival, Evolution, and Torfa, launched under the previous ownership.
While the new expressions look pretty, and will likely have wide distribution thanks to Brown-Forman’s global reach, there is no word on whether or not they are naturally presented (meaning they likely aren’t), and the flagship 12 year old will be bottled at 45% abv, just a hair under the benchmark 46%–something of a step backward given that the entire range being replaced was naturally presented at 46% abv or above.
