I hope you will find something to pique your interest here.
I’ve been a single malt Scotch drinker for more than half my life. I started regularly drinking single malts in my very late teens, and I started amassing a collection of bottles, writing tasting notes, and reading extensively about whisky–all at roughly the same time–in the second half of my twenties. Ever since I became a collector, and grew increasingly knowledgeable about whisky, I’ve greatly enjoyed writing about it. For a while, I posted tasting notes and related observations on Facebook. Then, seeking a somewhat wider audience, I began posting to a Tumblr blog. Now, I’m here on WordPress.
If you’re here reading this at all, there’s a good chance you’ve visited websites, Facebook groups, YouTube channels and more, all devoted to whisky. Does the world really need yet another enthusiast posting reviews? Maybe yes, maybe no.
One of the things that I’m hoping will set this blog apart from the others is that I aim to provide a variety of content here.
Yes, there will be reviews. But there will also be educational content about how whisky is made and what distinguishes whiskies from different locales. There will be industry news, albeit second hand. There will be advice on buying and collecting, and advice on where to find the whisky you want to find. And when I find whisky-related content I appreciate and find helpful from around the Web and beyond, I will post about it here, sharing links to other content where I can. In short, I hope to create something of a one-stop-shop, where you can read reviews and also learn something and find other writers or YouTubers you might enjoy.
I had, at one point, thought of naming this blog “All whiskies considered,” however, that would be false advertising. The reader may have noticed by now that I keep referring to “whisky” rather than to “whiskey”. That is intentional. I am, primarily, a single malt Scotch drinker. I occasionally drink bourbon, Japanese whisky, and other sorts of whisky, but that is not my main area of interest, nor my area of expertise. I genuinely enjoy the other types of whisky/whiskey that I’ve tasted, but I don’t have boundless time to devote to whisky and if I maintained my level of Scotch consumption while also trying to become versed in say, bourbon, I don’t suppose my liver would thank me. I will certainly write about bourbon and other whiskies on occasion, however here, Scotch–especially single malt Scotch–is the star and other whiskies are supporting players.
This website is completely free. I have a decent job that pays the bills and a generous wife who is kind enough to indulge my passion for whisky. That said, whisky is an expensive hobby, and running a website comes with some expenses as well. At some point, I will add a donation button, and I hope that if you are a regular visitor who enjoys the content here, you will consider making a small donation once that has been implemented.
Again, welcome to Whisky Considered and I hope you enjoy what you find here!
Slainte!
